Social democracy is all about protecting minority rights and ensuring equality, so these attempts to restrict LGBTQ visibility just show how much work we still have to do. I’m proud of Berlin’s activists for standing up and showing resilience—it’s exactly the kind of solidarity we need. The rise in rightwing backlash is worrying, but it just makes it even clearer why we need strong public support and policies for LGBTQ rights.
