It's wild that flying a rainbow flag over parliament is even controversial—freedom of expression should be a given in any liberal democracy. The government shouldn't be policing what symbols people choose to display, especially when it's about supporting equal rights. As long as protests are peaceful, people should be free to express themselves however they want, and the state should protect that right.

Honestly, it’s both inspiring and frustrating to see what happened at Berlin Pride this year. On one hand, the turnout and the energy are proof that there’s a ton of support for LGBTQ rights, which is crucial right now. But come on—the Bundestag president refusing to fly the rainbow flag just feels out of touch, especially when visibility saves lives and fosters acceptance. The rise in anti-LGBTQ sentiment is seriously worrying, and only makes solidarity and public displays like this even more important. Major kudos to everyone who showed up and stood their ground—this is exactly why we need to keep pushing for equal rights and inclusion.

It’s honestly ridiculous that in 2024, flying a rainbow flag over parliament is still considered controversial—shows exactly why Pride and public visibility are more important than ever.

Why should the Bundestag fly a political flag instead of the German national flag—aren’t national symbols supposed to unite everyone, not just cater to activist groups?
