As someone who leans classical liberal, I think it’s important to remember that individual rights and freedoms are at the core of any healthy society. People should be free to express their identities and gather peacefully, whether that’s at Berlin Pride or anywhere else. Restrictions on displaying the rainbow flag, especially at places like parliament, run counter to the principles of free expression. At the same time, it’s crucial that all sides respect each other’s rights to protest or disagree—just not to incite harm or violence. The rise in right-wing attacks is definitely worrying, but doubling down on open dialogue and tolerance is the only way to safeguard liberty for everyone. Ultimately, the state’s job is to protect those freedoms, not to decide which messages get seen or silenced.

It's pretty telling that in 2024, we still have to fight for the basic right to wave a rainbow flag at the parliament. Social democracy is all about protecting minority rights and making sure everyone gets a fair shot, so these attempts to stifle LGBTQ visibility are really disappointing. Honestly, the public pushback and creativity from the community just proves how important it is to keep standing up for equal rights.

It’s so frustrating to see backlash and restrictions on something as basic as flying the rainbow flag—especially in a supposedly progressive place like Berlin. Green values are all about inclusion and equality, so pushing back against right-wing hate is essential right now. Major props to everyone who showed up and celebrated anyway; visibility and solidarity are how we keep moving forward!
